One of my favorite childhood memories was going to church on Sunday and attending the coffee hour hosted by one of the parishioners after the service. I was probably 8 or 9 years old, and she had made cherry coffeecake from scratch, and it was love at first site.
Did you know that you can buy sugar-free cherry pie filling at the grocery store? Only 30 calories for 1/3 cup, and this is the quick way to get cherry Danishes on your breakfast table. These will only taste like you slaved in the kitchen for hours, when they are ready in about 20 minutes.
The base of my dough is my skinny pizza dough. That recipe can be found here. The best part about that dough is that once made, it keeps in your refrigerator for up to a week. I typically make a double batch each week, even though I live alone. It’s good for so many things!
This recipe is for three Danishes, but you can obviously double or triple this recipe as needed. They are best eaten the same day they are made, so I typically make them in smaller batches. These would be perfect during the holiday season when you have guests spending the night.

Serves: 3
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cooking Time: 15-17 minutes
6 ounces skinny pizza dough
30 grams of chocolate candy cane granola
5 teaspoons softened butter, divided
.75 ounce Alouette Brie, divided
9 ounces canned no sugar added cherry pie filling
1 egg yolk mixed with a teaspoon water for egg wash
1 teaspoon raw sugar
1. Heat oven to 375 degrees.
2. For each Danish: Use 2 ounces of dough mixed with 1/2 teaspoon of softened butter, and 10 grams of the granola. Roll out into a 5-inch circle.
For the granola, I used Safe + Fair candy cane granola, but feel free to substitute any chocolate granola from the grocery store.
I am signing up for the virtual Croquembouche Workshop, which is on Sunday, December 18 at 11am CST. Croquembouche is a tower of pastry cream-filled puffs held together by caramel and then finished with spun sugar – swoon!
You can also learn how to make Epic Holiday Cocktails in a virtual class on Friday, December 23, 2022 at 4:45pm. You will learn how to make a Cardamom Gin Fizz, The Alexander #2 and the New West 75th – they all sound amazing!
