New Orleans Eats

New Orleans, also known as "The Big Easy", is synonymous with jazz, culture and amazing food. Near the end of April, Jazzfest, an annual music festival, takes place over two weekends, featuring all genres of music.

In addition to the music offerings, New Orleans offers up some of the most amazing food you will ever eat.  From oysters on the half-shell, crawfish by the pound, crawfish étouffée, red beans and rice, or my new personal favorite, char-grilled oysters.

Chargrilled oysters are the perfect blend of oysters, parmesan and butter. It is unlike anything you have ever had. I've had it personally at four places in New Orleans and it's been fantastic across the board. I recommend the oysters at Royale Cafe, which are nothing but perfection.

Oysters, crawfish, and shrimp are the local staple proteins. However, don't be afraid to try something new... like alligator sausage or soft shell crab.

Soft shell crab is truly awesome. They feature a shell/skin, that is about as this as chicken skin. This is a delicacy that shouldn't t be reserved for Florida. The taste is incredible with a texture that is completely unique. Any road side place in the New Orleans area will be offering it up.

While all these offerings are great, the true New Orleans staple is the beignet. A beignet is a deep fried dough that is a tasty treat. While a lot of people will lean towards the famous Café DuMonde, another option that should be explored is Café Beignet. They make their beignets fresh too, but they have a lighter texture than Café DuMonde's beignets.

There are so many options to choose from when you visit New Orleans, never limit yourself to new culinary experiences.
